GO!!!

I enjoy reading other peoples blogs and this has inspired me to start my own. This blog will also give me a place to rant (if anybody reads!?!) and keep an online journal of my running and thoughts. I will try to be funny, honest, positive, and not mention names (except for well know people). I have been running off and on (mainly off) for the last 27 years, since I was 15. I ran XC and track in high school and college (Div. III). Quit soon after college due to burnout and my lack of progress. Over the next few years gained 30 lbs. After being out of shape and progressively feeling worse and worse around age 29 I decided that I needed to do something to stop the downward spiral. At that time I gradually built up my mileage, started mountain biking again and got back down to 140 lbs. After about two years of running/competing again, I was burnt out once again. However, this time I did not let me myself get totally out of shape. I did gain 10 lbs; although for a while I lifted a lot so some of this was muscle (at least that is my story). I started mountain biking more and raced for a couple of years. Shortly after turning 40, once again fate intervened and friend of mine said that he was running the NYC marathon and asked if I also wanted to run it so we could do the long runs together. Since I had always planned to run a marathon, however never got around to it when I was younger this really intrigued me. Boy, did I not know what I was getting myself into. The marathon has proved to be more of a challenge than I ever thought it would be (more on this in the future). Anyway this leads me to where I am now and my quest for a sub 3:00 marathon.
